Congratulations on your recent engagement! This is an exciting time in your life, and we are excited for you as you begin this new phase of your life. Now that you are engaged, you may feel a little overwhelmed with everything there is to do as you plan for your wedding. To help you as you begin your search for the perfect dress, we have put together a list of five simple things that you can do to make your dress shopping experience a wonderful one.
- 1. Make sure you schedule an appointment.
While walk-in shoppers are always welcome in our boutique, it is always a good idea to schedule an appointment to insure that you have the one-on-one time that you need, and deserve. At The Vow, we offer a variety of unique shopping experiences to meet your individual needs. Our exclusive Diamond Bridal Party is the perfect way to set the tone for the wedding of your dreams. There is nothing else like it in the region!
- 2. Have a realistic price range and delivery date in mind when shopping for your dress.
There are four things that go into the price of every wedding dress you’ll try on, including the type of fabric, the extent of the lining & construction, the ornamentation, and the skill of the seamstress who actually makes your dress. Before you go shopping, you have a price point in mind for your dress. Experts recommend that this amount be approximately 15 to 20% of the total amount of your wedding budget. Stick within your budget allowance, and don’t let pushy salespeople talk you into something you can’t afford. And, don’t be fooled by online promises of designer dresses priced at deceptively low prices. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Don’t forget that you are planning for your unique and very special day, so be sure to allow plenty of time for delivery and alterations to your dress. Bride’s magazine recommends that you purchase your wedding gown at least a year before your wedding. Don’t settle for a dress that’s been hanging around a store for months. Our boutique offers a variety of priority and special order dresses to meet any timeline!
- 3. Carefully consider who you bring shopping with you.
When you announce your engagement, you’ll have lots of friends who will want to go shopping with you. No matter how much they beg and plead, don’t feel like you have to bring everyone with you. Keep your entourage to a reasonable number (usually 2-5 is best), and include only those people whose opinion you trust. Remember, it’s about finding the dress that’s best for YOU! All too often, well-meaning friends and family members will give you conflicting opinions based on what they would wear, not necessarily what you want to wear on your wedding day. Consider leaving the little ones at home. While this may be an exciting time for you, it will likely not be so exciting for a child, and they will become easily distracted and bored. Remember, this is your special day! At The Vow, our personalized appointment options are specially designed to set the tone for your one-of-a-kind wedding journey!
- 4. Plan for your appointment to take about an hour and a half.
In this time you’ll be able to try on a variety of silhouettes and fabrics most frequently used in wedding gown designs. Within an hour of entering the store, you should have a very clear idea of what you’re looking for, and very likely you will have narrowed down your choice to a couple of favorites. At The Vow Boutique, we believe that choosing the perfect dress is something to be celebrated, and you shouldn’t settle for anything less. We know that your time is valuable, so we will work efficiently and effectively to find the perfect dress to suit your individual style!
- 5. Tell your consultant what you are thinking and feeling.
Your bridal consultant is there to help you find your perfect dress. It doesn’t hurt her feelings or the feelings of a dress if you don’t like something you try on. Please be open and honest with her about what you like and what you don’t like. When you are open with her, she can offer suggestions and recommendations that can help you have a more rewarding experience and find the dress much quicker. At The Vow Boutique, our consultants will guide you through the process and help you find the dress of your dreams!
